1952 Inter wiring questions

Forums

Hi,

I need to re-wire my 1952 Inter but can't find a wiring diagram for it anywhere (not that there's any complication to the circuitry)..  My first question is to ask  if it would have originally been -ve or + ve earth?  And the second is whether they were wired with black-insulated wire throughout or had Norton moved over to colour-coded wires by that time in common with some other manufacturers?

Many thanks in advance.

Nigel

Positive earth indicators?

Forums

Sorry this is not specifically Norton but relates to the Triumph-Greeves which I am close to finishing. It has 12 volt positive earth electrics controlled by a Zener diode and solid state rectifier. I've fitted indicators but am not sure whether 2 pin flasher units - like this one https://www.racing-planet.co.uk/flasher-relay-digital-standard-without-beeper-p-137957-1.html - will work on positive earth. There are 2 terminals marked B and L.

No spark

I have a four post ignition switch and have power to the brown/blue on post 1.

I would like to know what posts should be powered in the four key positions.

1. Parking - 1 and ?

2. Off - 1 only

3. Ign only - 1 and ?

4. Ign & Lights - 1 and ?

I think the switch is bad and I'm trying to confirm it.

Please help.

2A ignition switch

Forums

Does anybody have a recomendation for a better ignition switch than the one usually fitted to  a 2A Commando? In over 40 years of ownership I have probably replaced this switch four or five times, and now I think it's on the blink again.

Mk3 Roadster Lucas Main Wiring Harness Question

Forums

On the wiring harness p/n 06.6396 there are 4 red wires (see picture) and one seems to go nowhere. I cannot find the other end and need help to know what it is for?

Of the 4 wires 2 are positive ground. The third goes to the Accessory Plug & Socket (06.2666), which therefore needs to connect to one of the 2 ground wires. The other red ground wire goes to the horn.

Potential dangerous problem with LED lights

Forums

A friend of mine has a pair of Commando 850 MkIII’s, both fitted with LED lights throughout, including side lights and instrument lights.

He was in the garage one day when he turned the ignition to ON and then pressed the brakes, he was surprised when he saw the front light go on, remember this is a LED sidelight so is very bright and is even ok to use as daytime riding lights.
