Year of manufacture re: Historic status

Forums

Hello Everyone

I own a 850 mk 3 that was manufactured in July 1975 and was first registered in April 1976. There is no year of manufacture on the V5 and a check online on the DVLA website states the year of manufacture as 1976. So the first thing to put right is the year of manufacture and get it stated on the V5. To that end what certificate will be required? A factory record check or a Dating certificate?

Regards

You need the dating cert but wait until nearer the time as the DVLA add extra requirements as time goes on and if your dating cert is missing an extra item they will reject. You will not be able to apply for Histroic Status until April 1st 2016 so get your dating cert in late Feb early March 2016.

Last year was 1973, 2015 is 1974 and 2016 will be for 1975 manufacture. This assumes a new Govt does not change the rules.

I have a Mk3 Commando and in the same boat, waiting for next year, if I live that long?

You people of short memory will need to remember that we had a rolling 25 years in 1997 and then Wee Gordon Brown stopped it on taking office. Now we have a rolling 40 years BUT we also have an election coming...Just saying...

Some of us also remember that it was the Labour government that introduced "Historic" status in the first place. This forum is for Norton motorcycles, not politics.

With the grossly inflated prices of classic spares, most (but not all) owners of old vehicles are comfortably off financially, and can afford to pay for their toys.

Was it really a Labour Government? For a long time it was something like pre '32 vehicles which paid no road tax until the 25 year rule came in - and wasn't that the Tory Chancellor with the Hush Puppies, cigar and whisky that introduced that (Ken Clarke)? And now it's a 40 year rule. Who knows what will happen in future?
