Wheel size

On the advert for 350T Nortons it states the wheel size is 27x3 this sounds big what are your thoughts, Is this an old size? What size in todays measurements would it be.

It's the old sizing system based on the diameter with tyre fitted. During the late 1930s, it was common to quote both sizes. 19x3.25 was also referred to as 26".

A confusing system as tyre width (they were all 100% aspect ratio) had to be taken into account. 27x3 would be based on a 21" rim, I believe.

Thank you Richard I thought that was the case, but was not sure if it was 19 or 21.
