One of my boys bought me some vintage style handlebar levers from India. They look pretty but are useless . Just about every aspect of the manufacture is wrong. They don't even match the sales pictures and would not pass an MOT. It would appear that they have been made by someone who has no understanding of the use. The same idiots may be making other parts that may be even more safety critical .Be very carefull who you buy bits from.

Yes, all imports to the UK…
Yes, all imports to the UK over £16 (or £32 if marked as gift) are subject to VAT and duty plus handling fees. This value includes the shipping fee, most Indian and Chinese sellers will under declare the value but there will still be something to pay and the Post Office charge £8.50 for processing. Be wary of who you are buying off and only use sellers recommended by others, pummy.8081 has good reviews and no bad tanks reported on BSA tanks both steel and alloy.

I would like more information on these suppliers from India so that I may update the Services directory on this site.
Clearly, there are many advertisers out there with a variety of names but does anybody know whether they all make these items individually or if perhaps they source from a smaller number of manufacturers?
If Members would like to contact me off-line with information as to which are good and which are bad, that would be appreciated.

Where do I find out what these additional fees will add up to?
The supplier I am looking at is 'enfieldcounty' anyone bought from them? John

Just google: 'import duty', there's plenty of 'calculator' sites out there.
But as Mr Holmes rightly states, the Post Office will want their bite too.
(As an example I put in a motorcycle fairing at £200 plus £30 carriage from India to UK, duty plus VAT was quoted as£46, then another £8.50 to Post Office)
Best satisfy yourself, though......

My $200 flat slide carbs from the States sat in the mail depot until I went and paid £70 import duty. However the $300 (Australian) trispark ignition didn't cost any extra. You win some you loose some.

I've bought a couple of items from them in the past (including an alternator, from memory) and been quite satisfied with the quality, vis-a-vis the price paid.

I just purchased a gasket set from them. What made me choose them was that they fully described the item so that no emails were necessary and the photo matched the description which is rare. I would rather buy from a motorcycle shop rather than a key-fob and lighter shop.

Am thinking of purchasing an alloy petrol tank from India but note there may be additional import fee's etc. Does this apply to purchases to the UK? John
