Hi all, in the April Roadholder 'editorial' I stated that with the 40 year rule, bikes manufactured prior to 31st March 1975 are now 'tax exempt'. I now realise I have made an error. After consultation at my local post office (where the staff were very helpful) I now realise that the 'cut-off' date is actually 31st December 1974. This seems unecessarily confusing as the change date is the beginning of the financial year (April 1st) whereas the cut-off date is the end of the calendar year (31st December). Sorry for the confusion - I'll reiterate this in next months Roadholder.

I've just been looking into this as my bike is now eligable.
The DVLA website www.gov.uk/browse/driving has a page 'Taxing historic vehicles' on which it states 'vehicles registered before 1January 1975 qualify.
Also If the V5C indicates that the vehicle was registered up to the 7th of January it will also be eligable, as it will be deemed to having being built in the previous year.
