Navigator rebuild

Forums

After a two year delay retirement has allowed me to start the rebuild of my Navigator which suffered a bent frame after a Landrover pulled out in front of me and I had to part company to avoid T boning it.   A couple of days of hard work and my wonderful wife's help lifting the engine has got it recognisable as a bike again!   Clutch, primary drive , alternator going on tomorrow along with gearbox and timing cases.  I'm really pleased with the blue paint which is as close as I could get to the original Polychromatic Blue and the Lucas indicators.   Onwards and upwards!

On course for riding this summer?

My navigator is blue, no idea if its the right blue, that was decided by whoever rebuilt the bike.  I needed to paint a modified oil tank so took the bike to the local auto paint supplier.  They determined the colour is "Lotus Pacific blue A68" and mixed an aerosol for me.

I'm sure I seen reference to the Lotus blue being the correct colour for the bike?

My first Norton, in fact my first motorcycle if you forget the Lambretta Ld125, and the Honda 50 cub, was a 1965 Navigator. I bought it in '69, only 16,000 miles with Dorchester police. Radio equipped it was one of a pair to get officers quickly to incidents. The same blue as yours Nick. What an improvement on that10 year old, very reliable, Cub. Probably one of the first Hondas into the UK.

I only had the Norton 2 weeks and some scumbag in Chichester stole it. I was still in the police station having reported the theft when the radio room, who had put out an "all car alert", received a call of sighting and giving chase. The pair in the Morris Minor did their bit, but scumbag failed to take a corner and hit a low wall and hedge in some residential area. He got a lift back to the station, but I was left with bent blue Navigator. Just like yours.

Thanks for the memories.

The nearest I got was Vauxhall Starfire Blue.

Which colour did you find to be good?

What stage are you at now?

Cheers
