Roadholder forks

Hi just wondering what effect trapped air pressure and also a vacum effect withing the forks would have on there operation. as theres no breather.

Not a lot, they do leak out the threads of the top fork nut but not fast enough to be a breather but the pressure is not enough to effect operation, the springs are much stronger.

If the question is purely about trapped air pressure, then I would guess it does have an effect on the operation. All depending on initial air volume. Quite noticable for instance if more oil is filled than per manual (smaller air volume).

the reason i ask is on changing the oil in my forks on the Centre stand. i then dropped the bike down to the ground the forks were solid would not push down until i unscrewed both top nuts a couple of threads and they slowly descended to a relatively normal level it just played on my mind from that day wondering about the effect i describe would have on there operation.

it wasn't on its stand for long.it was the day after changing the oil i pulled it off its centre stand.to find the forks solid it wasn't until i released the top nuts a couple of threads as i was going to strip them down at this point to check them over the bike started to lower its self as the air came out no oil came with it .so from that point ive always wondered how does air escape when they opperate

May have been just some incidental "sticktion" during the oil change. One of the odd Norton idiosynchrasies maybe..

My forks work better with 200cc's per leg in them but WARNING, don't exceed this amount.

Looks like the above issue was a one off. (Never known of it before)
