I have purchased a 500T Norton, There is an old tax disc issued in 1970. I have contacted DVLA and am informed that I may not be able to retain the original reg number. I am hopeful to get the old buff log book but it is not to hand at present.
Can anyone advise if the original number will or not be issued.
Thanks Robert

If it has not been re-issued then I believe that you could get the number issued to you especially if you can find the old buff logbook.
Mike
The number has not been re issued.
Thank you

Talk to the single-cylinde…
Talk to the single-cylinder Records Officer (under 'Records' on the drop-down menu on the left).
It can be done if everything is in order which means an old log-book these days and a vehicle that retains the original major components, but it's best to understand the rules and make sure that the dossier you submit is completely in order.
DVLA used to accept a tax disc as back-up paperwork which was a bit daft really as it doesn't provide a link to a frame / chassis number.

Finding the old registration levers/records if they exist may help. I used to do that for a Ford owners club I belonged to just after I worked for DVLA.
i see you've found the logbook ..... no need for the records then!

Hi Robert, The more inform…
Hi Robert,
The more information and evidence you provide the more chance you have of getting the reg number back where it should be.
When I did my Model 7 I sent a copy of the original buff log book and a copy of the archive record obtained fromthe localcounty council (bike bought because it was locally registered). I could have submitted the tax discs too (all twelve of them)but I had two things that linked the reg to the make and frame number so there was no need.
It took them two weeks to send me back a shiny new V5c with the reg down as non-transferable.
