Hi Richard...Do you have the workshop manual? e.g. E.M. Franks? The top frame collar is a clamp and has to be slackened. The bottom frame collar has the taper which needs to be broken. But it sounds from your message that you know all that..although have you slackened the horizontal clamp bolt through the back of the top collar? Sorry if you know all this but nobody else has volunteered! You do have the threaded rod to hold it together as it comes out...?

hi every onethe, realeasing oil did the trick a heavy hammer was needed the rod was coraded at the top tap the rod out with a hammer not a rubber hammer as the book says this job would beawkward if the bick was standing up right .hope this helps some one. richard.

It took me DAYS to extracy my plungers! Copious ammounts of Plus Gas, Heat and a dirty great hammer woks well. However it pays to be very careful. I used a threaded bar and various spacers to pull the rod out like you do with any spindle. Put the rod through the plunger spindle put some small washers and some nuts on the bottom end and at the top fit a spacer over the frame then washers and more nuts and tighten it up. The spindle will need to fit through the spacers. Apply heat and tap the bottom of the rod till it moves the tighten up and repeat for the next few days, soaking in relesing oil all the time.

You will have simply hours of fun doing this and your workshop will stink to hell with Plus gas and dried rust.

You could always try a mixture of acetone and diesel for releasing iol as it has been proven to be the best method, and it's cheap. 50/50 mix.

Happy Hammering,

BOO.
