I will be putting the engine back in this weekend after a full rebuild and I'm not sure which way round to install the rear engine mounting bolts, or if it makes any difference?
Most of the bikes I've looked at have the nuts on the timing side, but then some don't or are a mix.....

If the bolts can be entered from the timing side, then I'd do that as a sheared fastener or one stripped whilst check-tightening could be replaced without the need to remove the primary drive.

I think access is restricted for the top one by the timing cover so has to go in from the left anyway. The others I will probably fit from the timing side.

It looks like they are studs with nuts.
However if yours is a 72 or later then this picture should give you the required information.
