Norton Dominator silencers

Forums

Can anyone please recommend a company that sells Dominator silencers that look like the original Norton ones, I appreciate that the sound unfortunately will not be the same but prefer ones that are not too noisy. Thanks, Ken

Hiyah Ken - On my Mercury I had one of the last pairs from Mick Hemmings that look the same but are very throaty and good quality.  I heard that Andover Norton bought most of his business but I know they didn't get all of his stock or sub contractor permits.  I have fitted Armour's P11 stubby ones on my 88SS track bike and they do the job but will not suit a tourer.  I have a pair of Goldies on my 650SS ex Production racer and they sound magnificent but don't suit everyone's taste or needs.  Years ago I fitted a pair of G15 CSR silencers to a 650SS and they looked the part and were quieter than expected.  The rear bracket adapters were made from dural.  I mounted them upside down on opposite sides to the G15 so there wasn't room for any talking ballast behind me.  They are probably available.  Wassell used to sell the cigar silencer that went on some lightweights and 88 De-Luxe and SS in the early 60s.  Years ago they were the best copies for a straight-through silencer.  They look good as well.  Does no one make a good early Commando type these days ?     cheers, Howard

I can't see anything wrong with the rear tyre Alan., If you are going to ride down a muddy gravelly lane  with pot holes (  like most of the lanes round here ) ,I cant think of a better tyre.  A proper tread to cope with gravel and strong construction that coped with a 200mph run by Nero .

The Avon SM Mk II is a pretty good all-round (ho ho) tyre. Good wet grip, good dry grip and decent wear characteristics. Additionally, good enough for brisk silencer-scraping cornering. What's not to like?

I have Armours silencers on my 99. They sound good and are decent quality and have survived many salty winters.

Thanks Al,  as always.....If an Avon Safety Mileage Mkll is good enough to win the Thruxton 500 Mile races three times on a 650SS then it's good enough for a plodder like me.  Take care, ride safe,  Howard

I had assumed that the Thruxton winner used a GP tyre ! , But you could be right , the GP would wear very fast and Thruxton was a rough old track , perhaps the SM was a better bet?.

Thanks Howard and all, I will have a hunt around. I have some original ones that need re-chroming but companies will not do this, several have large scrapes underneath due to over cornering! Cheers, Ken

Good morning Ken - When you get your new silencers you could mount them up and out of the way like that Thruxton winner 44BTR. That would stop you scratching them,  tho' with all the pot-holes on the roads even that's doubtful. Not conducive if you want a talking ballast behind you !!  I relied on scratching mine - it stopped me going further over......You knew the bloke who owned that bike didn't  you ? I wonder what happened to him ?  regards, Howard
