More Gears!

Forums

I have a new L/S 3rd pinion. Unlike the bushed one in the picture that came out of my box it isn't stamped AH on the Dog side. It does have two 5's stamped on the other side at right angle to each other. The machining marks look identicle. Does anyone reocognise this gear - when did Norton start stamping AH on the Commando gears?

Cheers

I can’t remember exactly but are you sure that the bush you see isn't a floating bush that has become stuck? … they do that! Mick Hemings describes the different gears in his video, but I’m damned if I can remember how you told the difference ! If no one else knows I’ll find it and load it up!  dan

I was hoping that the 5's would relate to who made it - if anyone has seen one the same? The bush is irrelevant - it will be replaced.

Recently I have been made aware of 3 cases where AMC gears have failed, two from owners who bought them with a job lot of spares and one new from a retailer. All had defects that could not have been identified by those fitting them, Thankfully they all survived to tell the tale and send me the offending items, none were ANIL manufacture. Do not us RS gears, and do not use unused NOS as much of what I see is unfinished, if it has been used then there will no problems if you have identified it correctly. 2nd and 4th gear are where most problems occur.
