Mikuni carb (again..)

Not a request for help this time, rather a comment on my experience.

I've had my '72 Roadster for a year and just about knocked out all the issues that came free with the bike. Overall I am very happy with it, power to weight is good and it zips along.

The carberation has been an issue, I've ultrasound cleaned both carbs and balanced - I still got hesitation at times when coming back on the throttle in a bend and general rough running.

So onMonday I ordered a Mikuni carb kit from Allens (http://www.allensperformance.co.uk/), the VM34-0031-K specificallyfor the 750 Commnado.

The pack arrived today and it took about two hours to fit and most of that was removing the existing Amal carbs and air filter.

The kit includes everything required, although I think I can improve on the expandable clips for the fuel pipe.

Having removed the air box the ignition key bracket has nothing to hang on to, so I used two cableties to fix it to the frame rail, until I get time to make a newbracket.

Also the breather from the oil tank did vent into the air box, so a long pipe will be require to vent to the back of the bike into free air.

It started first kick, which was a good sign.

Riding the bike, it immediately feels smoother and the pick up at low revs is much better. Also I can plonk along in a higher gear at slower revs and speed, without the need to change down as often.

I'll be seeing what it does to the gallon in the near future - the last tank full was at 48 miles / gallon on the Amals.

At £252, plus carriage £14.50, then vat all that for a total of £321 - not a cheap option - but so far good results and a recommendation from me.

well I could of Sold you a Delortto 34mm carb for £60 brand new I have 3 of them they need the main jet changing as they where jetted for a two stroke engine ?

I assume that includes thechoke, air filter, manifold, throttle cable, gaskets - some expectation that it may actually work on the bike?

Started first kick - wow! I have the same carb set up as you, and I never get that sort of start. Do you mind telling me what ignition system you have? I find it a struggle to get mine started in anything under 6+ kicks which in the summer in full gear is not a pleasant experience.

And my final plug for the Mikuni / Allens (no connections) - I've added 25 miles to the tank full to 138 miles before reserve.

I could now work out the breakeven point - but can't be ar@@ed!

It has a Boyer fitted - when I first got the bike it was miss firing until I checked and adjusted the timing with a stobe.
