My Dommie is throwing alit of oil out of the crank case breather? She is relatively clean burning but the plugs are carboned up. You can hear it at times too!

I I changed the head gasket over winter and the bores looked OK with no scoring.

The he timing may be oust slightly too, if this may be relevant

Suggestions welcomed!

Is it wet sumping between rides, if so drain the sump before you start the bike. Or is it breathing the oil at the end of a run, then its either a worn pump not clearing the sump or piston rings allowing blowby. Refurbish the pump, for the rings if the bore is still within wear limits and not scored then hone and fit new rings. Also check the oil return circuit for blockages or restrictions, rubber pipe can internally delaminate and reduce flow.

I emptied to to sump before starting up yesterday. There was a lot of oil at the end of the run and you could hear a whistle at times from the breather pipe.

I fitted a remote oil filter like commandos have over winter. Return is till good at the tank while running.

Who referbs oil pumps and how much?

You can do it yourself, RH 327, on line here, has excellent advice by Phil Hannam on how to do this, ( Dominator and Commando use essentially the same pump.I believe that RGM do a refurbishment service for very little money. good luck

Thank you both!

Just before you wip off the pump.... you can check if the scavenge side of the pump is returning oil by simply looking at the oil return spout inside the oil tank filler hole...If, after starting from a longish rest period the oil is seen to flow in a good continuous flow for a period of time and without any long delay this is a good sign. After a while the oil should be seen to return in spurts as the sump is drained. Then rev the engine fora short period then drop down to a tick-over ...this should then see the oil return once again in a continuous flow for a short period and return to spasmodic spurting. If the above is observed then the oil pump is working reasonably well and perhaps your problem is elsewhere?

I don't know how long you have had the bike but my 99 took a long time to run in properly several thousand miles and even then it took a flat out session on a race track for the compression to maximise, its now hard to kick over and breathes out much less oil.
