Not my bike, I have an identical 650ss, one of the earliest. This is just for anyone's interest.

Looks very tidy despite the droopy silencers. Hate to think the final cost if it were to be re-imported. Ain't it wonderful to be able to mention the M word in peace now...

When I first saw the recent message heading, I nearly had a bad turn. With thoughts of 'oh no, here we go again!!!!' The photo of the RED seat did not help. However, reality quickly kicked back in and much as this bike would make a nice addition to my collection the present exchange rate plus shipping plus import taxes mean that it ain't going to happen.

I did contact the seller, out of curiosity, and found out it still needs some tidying up, the drooping silencers being one of the items, note the tach drive but not tach, it's missing. Oops, "rev counter". The bike is as he got it. I'm in Canada so have the same shipping/exchange rate issues. It's hard to tell from the photo but it appears to have a down draft head, from an Atlas perhaps?

It's a good job that Anna can not get on this Forum. She would be throwing conrods at Bruce's head and shipping him off to Australia.

An Atlas head on a Manxman!!!! Wash your mouth out with Castrol GTX.

Definitely Transportation for you my boy!!!

For those with a slight interest in the welfare of AJD, she was last reported as claiming that her big-end had worn out. Comments only on a post card please!!!

The engine stamping is radically different from later practice. Mine is stamped 18SS/123***. None of my engines is stamped in the red Norton insignia area like this one. Late Commandos (1974 at least) are stamped where the insignia used to be.

Attachments show Mark 1 Manxman cases and very late Mercury cases.....with number stampings. The interesting fact here is that some of the Manxman engines had twin carbs but were all stamped with 18. Whereas, all of the Mercury bikes had a single carb but used cases stamped with 18SS.

The later Mark 2 Manxman models were all stamped with 18SS but the majority had twin carbs and were essentially the 650SS model with high handle bars. Still with me??? Lots of these bikes were sold in Europe as the Manxman 650 in late 1961/62 and have caused some owners real problems when trying to get spares.

My hand has been smacked for upsetting Anna..........again!!! I am actually truly sorry for doing this.

Hello a bit late but the cost to ship this bike to the UKwould set you back in all £12.000 quid but it would be money well spent has there rare and a lot differentthan you may think they do not ride like a 650ss the Manxmanis a lot better I have ridden both the Manxman 650 has some real curator and that bit more refined to the UK Nortons twins the last one I have to see sold in 2016 was some 16k by now there be up to 23k has there very very hard to find and the dropie silencer are not bolted to the footrest where they should be, the Norton Manxman650 is one of Bracebridge Street workshops finest Norton twins but sadly not even one can get to know them has there very rare motorcycle .I just happen to be very lucky to own one, its a privilege not taken lightly and care of all Nortons is a big responsibility these machinesare a piece of living history and cannot be replaced yours anna j

As a curator comes with this museum piece, I can now understand the hefty price tag, no doubt travelling 1st class on the Queen Mary 2?

£12.000 quid!! I once priced shipping a bike to Canada, it was around $1000 Cdn. Likely a bit more now.

Hello yes you now read the thread right This includedbuying the machineto most shippers charge some 1500 pounds and then you have 5% tax to pay and then get a NOVA DOCUMENT so you can registerit for the road in the UK But now I think there could be complications has the DVLA are Changing the import laws on vintage machines but there are company's that do the lot for you at a price yours anna j

hello yes if I had that type of money I love travelfist class with my Norton650 Manxman who would not even the bike would get fist class attention to on the best ship afloat but you can only dream have fun yours anna j

£1,500 seems a bit steep to ship a bike across from the States. A few years ago I brought a Land Rover from New Zealand. It cost me £1,800 and that included the shipping.

Hello LAND ROVERS OR CARS DO NOT NEED A BOX to put them in but its, not any old box they have to be licenced box against woodworm or Beatles this puts up the cost and you have export and import tax to pay your have fun in the sunyours anna j

Seems a bit steep to me too. I shipped an Inter frame from Portland, Oregon USA to Melbourne recently and (including the approved packing case), total cost was only the equivalent of GBP 180.00

Getting it through Melbourne Customs is another story!
