Jubilee crash bars

Forums

Hey guys,

Restoring my ‘66 Jubilee which was fitted with what I think are referred to as ‘crash bars’.

Unfortunately the years of storage have badly corroded the chrome and the aluminium mounting plates at the top are suffering from significant exfoliation!

I can’t seem to find any replacement options online, before I try to manufacture new plates, has anyone got one they would like to offload, or seen any online anywhere??

Many thanks!

Hi,

Back in the day these were a common generic accessory, just like luggage racks and panniers were. They seem to disappear in the late '70s or early '80s from the shops.

However, they are still very common in India and feature on most of the Enfield Bullets there. With the Bullet also having a single downtube frame, a set of Indian made crash bars could well be the easiest option for you as they should be reasonably simple to adapt - they would probably work out cheaper than getting what you have rechromed/restored. Here is one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185015755968?hash=item2b13cc64c0:g:KdQAAOSw5T5hJekI

Good luck,

Yours look like Britax crash bars.  I had them on my Dominator and can thoroughly recommend them as they really work!  I came off twice (oily roads) and the bike barely suffered any damage.

I had them on my first Dommie too and they saved me from worse injury when I crashed into a Ford Thames van - who had turned across my path from the other direction due to me wearing my "Cloak of Invisibility"!   That time the impact actually broke the right side of the crash bars but protected my legs.  I only had a relatively minor (one month off work and on crutches!) foot injury, but the bike had a smashed timing cover where the crash bar smashed into it.  As this was in a 30mph limit area things weren't too bad.

I have bought replacements to fit to my Dommie when I eventually put it back together!  They are useful for fitting accessories to, like wind-tone horns or spotlights.
