Hi all - I seem to recall sometime back that some owners doubted the accuracy of the in-built timing scale fitted in the primary chaincase - I've always setup ignition timing using this but are there doubts ref the scale or markings on the alternator rotor ?

There are guys on one of the US sites that claim these scales are way out. I checked mine with the usual TDC, degree discand dial guage method and found it to be within a degree. Mine is also scrunched through earlier damage from the primary chain. Unless you are really concerned I would not worry too much. The rotor could have a worn keyway but it would have to be very bad to have much effect.
