Hard gearchange AMC box

My change has always been a bit stiff. having looked at everything else,I'm thinking camplate and plunger. Do we have a figure for the spring load ? It may have been swopped for something non std. Has anyone drilled the housing in case of hydraulic lock. Can the camplate bind on its bush?.

There are lots of potential areas, inside the AMC Box, which could cause a stiff gear change. The housing for the plunger can get full of rust from the spring and other rubbish which will then obstruct easy movement.

When I had my Commando gearbox apart, to service it, I de-burred any sharp edges on the camplate and polished the selector spindle and all the other chunks that might bind. This spindle must be true with regard to its form and position. ie it must be very straight along its length and screwed into the housing properly.

Thanks Phil, I will be having a look round soon. Considering first replacing clutch center as its a bit notched and the primary chain which has a tight spot. Centers are expensive if gen Norton ,has anyone had good service from vastly cheaper E-Bay offerings?.
