Dzus fasteners

Forums

Require some dzus fasteners for my Jubilee side panels.

The clips on the back of the panels have corroded/snapped off. Other than welding new clips on the panels is there any other options. If there is who would stock them.

Thanks

John.

Hello John,

Have you tried the NOCshop? They had Dzus fasteners in stock and possibly have the spring clip as well. The spring clip is simply pop riveted unto the bracket. The NOC Dzus fastener is slightly longer and the head is chromed but they did a rubber washer as well which all fitted together pretty good. The commercial A6-35 Dzus fastener is zinc plated but may be hard to get now as it is now officially obsolete.

I have found that the fastener from the boot floor panel of the MGB GT fits the back of the seat on the Norton and this has a very handy ring pull on it. It is a little bit long but a rubber spacer does the job and protects the paint as well; easy to remove with just fingers.

Sounds interesting.

Any address or part-no?

Hello,

Here's a picture of the MGB GT fastener. It came for free from a scrap GT that I had as spares for the race car. It held down the plywood panel which covers the spare wheel -there are two of them, one in each corner and you simply twist down with fingers. Only in the GTs.- not fitted to soft top cars.

Rubber bumper GTs are still scrapyard material- sorry I don't have other part numbers. To some of us with real MGBs mentioning an MGB GT is a bit like swearing; but the fastener is much better employed holding down the seat on my 1961 Navigator De Luxe. Somehow only Norton could put the toolbox (containing the screwdriver)under the seat and then fasten the seat down with a fastener which needed a screwdriver to undo.

On the big twins the side panel fasteners were fixed to the panel with wire circlips . There were 2 or3 different types on each panel, don't know if the smaller twins are as complicated.

Yes officially according to the Spare Parts List you need 4 x A6-35 fasteners, 2 x A6-60 fasteners, 6 x A6 wire circlips, 6 x 1-90 springs, and 12 x 1/8" x 5/16" snap head rivets. That's to fit the side panels.

The wire circlip keep the dzus fastener attached to the side panel when it's unfastened - so not totally necessary. The springs apparently come in all sorts of offsets(I think that's the 1-90 bit) but should in theory be matched to the length of the fastener. The A6-35 and A6-60 refers to the length-the -35 is .35 inches long and the -60 is .60 inches long. (I think).

The precise matching fit is probably important to obtain your air worthiness certificate but not so critical on a Norton Jubilee. If they are a bit slack just add a flat washer as required.

Ive answered my own question.

This morning I was looking at my replacement parts catalogue for the 1959/60 models. It gives the size and part numbers.

Side panel fastener A6-60 for the large side panel to tail portion.

Side panel fastener A6-35 small side panel to frame.

Wire circlip A6

Thanks

Johnh.
