Downloadable pdf manuals and parts lists

I came across this site:

http://www.pdfmotomanual.com/index.php?r=site/page&view=manuales&order=t&key=&make=1964&lang=ENG

which although in Spanish, has loads of English language downloadable manuals. Not quite the ones I need for my 1952 ES2 but enough to piece together when combined with the 1948 Edgar Franks boot I inherited from my dad.....

Did you actually manage to download anything useful? All I get is invitations to download dodgy-looking software.

Are those dodgy-looking invitations in pop-up windows, Julian? If so you can probably set your browser to block them, or install an ad blocker. Unless you already know about all that! Laughing I've downloaded several interesting things, with no weirdness at all.

No pop-ups or weirdness for me, although I do have a pop-up blocker and ad blocker (Firefox, Windows 10).

I've downloaded several documents which all seem to work fine (I always check downloads with anti-virus and anti-malware as a matter of course).

Good point -- I'd better have a look at my browser settings

I clicked on the link and Microsoft are sending me a critical link saying my computer has been blocked and to phone them on a free phone number.

Only open this link at you peril!

Very strange. It works fine for me and nothing dodgy at all. I've just clicked on it again and no problems.

When you say "Microsoft send you a link" do you mean that comes from Internet Explorer?

Just tried it in EDGE with no add-ons and it seems OK there. However, it does show that a download is ready when I haven't yet asked for one.......

I would suspect that message to be a phishing attempt â if you made that call, I'd expect them to ask for details you need to keep secret.

It looks like this source is booby trapped â since it's worked fine for me and others but not for some, I wonder if that isn't a measure of how useful and effective security software can be ...? Having said that, my security software is paid for and updates risks automatically â I think I've mentioned this before, but only very rarely does it report an attack, and it hasn't been at all bothered by this source. In short, I don't really understand what's going on here, but I would strongly recommend a) being sure that you have robust security software installed and b) never click on pop-up ads or respond to invitations to call or message anyone without first verifying the address the message would go to or who would pick up the phone â here at least, Google is your friend!

Good advice.

I use the standard Windows Defender on my Windows 10 machine together with Malwarebytes (free version) and do a scan regularly, although I very rarely if ever find anything.

I do apologise to anyone that has encountered a problem with that site.

stay well clear of this link, it contains a phishing site....even my Mcafee [paid for!]protection did not work on this one . luckily the friendly B4RN technician managed to sort out the problem.... whatever happens do not phone the 0800 number, it is apparently a common Chinese phishing site.

Isn't it a pain when an innocuous link can cause so much trouble!

I suppose in a way it's asking for trouble â everything I looked at is surely still in copyright, whether or not the copyright holder is active. Using motorcycle porn to create a honeytrap?
