Dominator tank refurb

I would like to have my 88 Dominator tank repainted and was wondering if anyone can recommend a company or person that does this. I have had one quote of £500 which seems excessive to me but maybe that is the norm. Any advice welcome.

Cheers

Hi, Mel.

It rather depends in which part of the country you are but I have very recently had my 650SS tank refurbished via Pennine Powder Coating of Todmorden in West Yorkshire. Powder coating wasn't appropriate in my case as I had just sorted out relining the inside of the tank but Chris at Pennine, also very much a Norton man, has a contact in Rochdale who made a smashing job of respraying it. Very pleased with the result and the total cost of shot blasting the outside of the tank and the respray was only £160. You can reach Chris if you want to take things further on 07736 771759.

Hope this helps.

My original 1960 Black and Dove Grey (RAL 1013) 99 Slimline tank was prepared and painted perfectly. Cost me £180 here in North Yorkshire.

Trouble is, it is just too good to put on the bike, so I may just continue with the spare tank!

Or, consider a new tank from Royal Enfield King. A chrome plated tank, ready to fit, with decals, fuel cap, and tap, cost me 360 pounds delivered. This was for a '54 Dominator, with chromed tank, a painted tank, for later models would be cheaper. Excellent quality, and identical weight to the original, so not made with thinner plate.

Maybe some Indian tanks are of poor standard, but not from this company.

Many thanks for all your helpful info, certainly sounds like a number of options cheaper than £500, even a new tank from India..!

I'd like to stick with my original steel tank so will get in touch with the guy in Yorkshire.

Cheers

Thanks Lance, I live in Gloucestershire but even with postage this sounds a much better deal than any I have come across so far.

Many thanks

Mel
