Dominator colours and paint

Forums

I am looking into repainting my 1961 dominator 88/99. The bike currently is in Forrest green (multiple shades over the years!) and cream, 88 colours. The engine is a 1960 99. After much thought as to originality, which is now long gone, I have decide to go with the silver tank, black everything else option. I am hoping the guards are good enough to chrome!!!???

What is the nearest and best colour match for the silver tank. a la 650ss? I live in Perth, Western Australia so a generic colour type may be needed.

Also what are the views on two pack vs acrylic?

I am learning as I go. I have a compressor and will be constructing a 'spray booth' in the shed.

Best wishes,

Don

I use 5 wheels silver spray cans from Halfords car accessories (makes steel wheels unconvincingly look like alloy). Did I just hear purists fainting? I hope they are OK, poor things. Problem is they are acrylic and don't like petrol spills, so you need a petrol-proof lacquer top coat. I think it looks passably good...

2 pack paint is always the best to use as it sets harder and gives a far beter finish

nowto upset the puerests iv used rustolium combicouler paint as its self leveling and fuel resistant but i wasent that woryed about geting a perfect match on the couler as i cant aford to pay for a profeshinal spray job

Robert, I agree about the colours. If I can get the guards chromed I think I will go with the Black/ Silver, as I think it will look great. However if the guards have to be re-painted I will stick with the green/cream. Attached photo show the bike at it's best, closer examination would show the paintwork to be not so good!

Still trying to work out what paint to use!

Hi Anna, the link you gave doesn't seem to workbut a Google search produces their eBay shop here - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Nu-Agane-Car-Paints-01234-355990They don't seem to have any otherdedicated website. They don't list polychromatics and I didn't think anyone made them any more (silver or gold basecoat with translucent coloured top coat). Plenty of clear lacquer topcats, including cellulose.

RS paint do a seemingly authentic range of copuilrs but their prices are sky high! If you are doing your own spraying it's better to go to the local paint supply shop and get it mixed to suit a sample, if you can get one.

Thank you for the information above. However my problem is that I cannot get these paints from the UK as I live in Perth, Western Australia.

What I am looking for is a paint code or equivalent paint type.

BMW Titan Silver and Ford Silver fox have been suggested, I will check these with the local car paint supplier. I was hoping for a code or something to better identify the paint.

I used 2 pack paint supplied by Custom paints in Adelaide made to original colour codes for a 58 Thunderbird. He has a tie up with a Brit paint supplier for original codes for most colours. Very pleased with his service as he posted to Rockhampton Qld.Have gothis email address at home if required.
