Distributor shaft end float

Forums

I'm renewing the O ring seal and I notice the distributor sprocket has a mm or so end float ,can't find any reference to this appart from not to lose the copper washer ,any idea what float figure is?, Also not been able to find a bit or key to fit the nuts that hold the housing to the crankcase? Bit surprised to find a spline type nut on a 1959 built bike, Norton were also using posidrive screws to hold the rear chainguards , which was a surprise for 1959.

Well No the chain guard was fitted by 1/4 BSC nuts and bolts and two washers too each bolt. and think your meening the gap between the outer crankshaft and the Rotor these should be a shug fit with no movement at all try changing the key way and there should no splined Nuts or castel nuts on the end of the crank just one plane nut one plane washer done up to 30 Psi the first cross head screws were called Phillips CSJ screws you find these fitted in the back of the Morris minor traveller in the boot fittings rails

yours anna j No Anna, Not the crank, We are talking Distributor housing, and the strange cap head type nuts are standard and shown in the Bracebridge St Manual. The cross head set screws that fix the enclosed chaincase are also orriginal (fitted to both my bikes) .Nuts and bolts would not work at all on this model.
