commando 1/2 speed shaft support

Forums

Hello, is it possible to obtain the dimensions for making a 1/2 speed support for use when adjusting the timing chain on a commando? I would much rather cut up a chunk of aluminum plate than a timing cover!

Thanks,

Hugh

Find a damaged timing cover.

I have one for servicing my Dominator, it's cut away for accessing both chains. Make sure to avoid cutting off the hole for the timing cover screw directly above the half time pinion shaft.

Imade one from a piece of 1/2" alloy plate, I drilled and reamed the hole for the support (1/2" i think) then with the shank of a 1/2"a milling cutter through the plate to centralise the plate, I spotted through the relevant holes from the timing cover and drilled them to suit the screws. I may have machined a bit away to clear the oil pump. I'll dig it out and post a photo

Thank you David, This is exactly what I was hoping for! I have a small machine shop and like to make my own tools. Perfect!!!

And the final one, the main hole is 9/16" dia, the cutout on the edge clears the oil pump and on the face the gears. Once the 9/16 hole is centred on the back of the timing cover you can spot the small holes through from the outer edge (ignore the 7/16" written on the plate, brain fart)

Thank you David, I'll make one up when I get the timing cover off. This is exactly what I was looking for and it means another timing cover won't be chopped up!
