Cleaning inside my 1974 850 commando puel tank

Just bought a 850 commando interstate it's been dry stored for 15 years there is light rust inside the fuel cap and light rust on the roof of the tank any idea on the best way of cleaning it out, don't think it's bad enough to replace. Andy

... I wouldn't bother. However no doubt someone will be along to tell us that ethanol will turn it into a colander.

I dare say they will, Ian.

But if I were Andrew, with the tank on and bike ready to ride, I would add a little 2 stroke oil and fill up with E0 and that should help with surface rust.

A full interstate tank is very heavy, hence my statement. Otherwise a squirt or two of WD40 or Duck oil will help until you are ready to fill up.
