Atlas Oil Pump Worm

Forums

Can anyone please confirm if there is supposed to be a thin washer behind the oil pump worm? I found one on disassembly but it looks a bit odd & I cannot find one in any diagrams/parts lists.

I have never seen a washer fitted behind the oil pump worm. The attached diagram for Dommie twins appears to confirm this.

But...........the first Model 7 engines used the same worm as the ES2 singles which was thinner than the later Model 7s and 88s. Perhaps you have one of these worm gears and someone has added a washer to ensure it mates correctly with the pump gear. The only other washer shown in the diagram is the one behind the intermediate gear....number 82.

This condition can be serious if not treated. Norton owners should also watch out for ES2 Magneto Fly and the Model 50 Mite. I hear that Commando Clutch Weevil is spreading across Europe and might well hit our shores later this summer.

Sorry - I couldn't resist that one; it will probably get me into trouble. More seriously, I am pleased to see that the ever informative Phil has come up with a possible answer.

I am quite tempted to stick a riding boot in here and insist that certain contributors go back to polishing the rust on one of their nasty tin worm plagued velocipedes......... But I am above going off-topic just to get a cheap laugh. Instead I will quietly release the bolts confining AJD to wordless solitude and enjoy the consequences.

Thanks for the info Phil. Confirms what I suspected. Goon fitted extra part. It can go in the box with the goon bits of metal that were welded to the flywheel.
