Amal mk2/choke

Forums

I've put on a mk2 Amal, it went well for a few days then the choke lever started playing up. I put on the cable conversion and it was great for a few days.

The cable system seems to be working as it should, but there is no effect when open. Had a look inside and I assume fuel is suppose to come up from the float chamber when opened could this be the issue? If so how do I fix it?

James,

Check the carb is filling with fuel, and the choke jet isn't blocked.

Ensure the cable isn't hung up.

Remove the choke valve and check it is still attached and there is a black seal in the base of the brass piston

Check the cable operation, ensure the return spring fully compresses and fully opens.

Re fit and from memory you should be able to see the choke valve operate through the drilling in the mouth of the carb. When the valve is down there should be a little play in the cable.

Fuel is only pulled up by air flow with the slide closed ie throttle closed. The enrichment effect diminishes as the slide is lifted and has little or no effect after 1/4 throttle.

Dave.
