I have recently aquired a Norton 16h WD 1940, when I purchased the bike I was told that the speedometer was not working as it is turning in the wrong direction,
On investigation the drive is turning clockwise but it appears the speedometer needs to turn anti clockwise. The speedometer is an 80mph smiths WD unit
Can any one help,
Richard, I'd suggest post…

Richard,
I'd suggest posting on the WD Motorcycles forum.

The drive that you have is probably correct for right-hand fitment on an early BSA M20. Norton drives (even NOS) are comparatively more numerous - although sometimes expensive.
If you turn the wheel, the drive should turn clockwise (unless it's for a late 1930s Royal Enfield, but they are the horribly complicated exception that proves the rule.
