Dominator 77 forks

Forums

Hi

Could anybody give me an idea of the differences between a 1956 ES2 and a Dominator 77 of the same year front forks, there appears to be a different part number, I have both bikes but the 77 handles more like a side car handing bike (which I realise it was designed for), and also can one change parts to match the ES2

thanks

Try and search out part numbers numbers stamped on the fork yokes. Yokes for sidecars have different numbers as they give a different angle of trail.

****** Info below is from John Hudson many years ago:

SIDECAR YOKES: The top yoke is stamped s/car to the right of the top column nut. On the bottom yoke - (the crown and stem) - the column is not parallel with the fork stanchions but pulls them in at the top to push the front wheel forward and so reduce the trail. Additionally the crown is straight across instead of being a shallow inverted 'U', and instead of the underside being completely flat with a hole approximately 5/8" in diameter for the boss on the lock stop plate to centre in.

Other info and numbers that may need confirming.

Many thanks Phil

I note the figures you list are for the Featherbed frames, mine is pre Featherbed so I guess the numbers may be different, I have looked at the part nos in my books and the crown lug and tube (lower) is the same part number for both the 77 and ES2 but the top crown is different, there is more rake forward on my ES2 than on the 77 and the ES2 is much nicer to ride whereas the 77 tends to drop into corners, am I correct in thinking the more rake forward gives a more stable steering ?

Thanks again for your help

Further to my last post I have just looked at both of the top yolk's and the ES2 doesnt seem to have any markings it has however been powder coated ! but the 77 has a number stamped on the underside of the top yolk of 20067 which doesnt match any of the numbers on your list, I wonder what it came off !...this is the one I am trying to improve....any ideas very welcome

Here are a few more numbers that were on a scrap of paper marked sidecar yokes. Written many years ago by John Hudson.

21508 Fork Crown & Column

21593 Headclip or Top Yoke

Plus 21570 & 21571 as numbers for Fork Top Covers with left or right lamp brackets. I am guessing these are also for Featherbed frames but not sure.

Thanks again Phil....turning into a bit of a mystery...these top Yokes or clips seem to be very difficult to find but I have located what I think is a Yoke the same as my ES2 trouble is its in the States...........As you can see I have finally realised I have been spelling Yokes (Yolks !) incorrectly...back to school I think

Thanks again
