Norton 16H crank cases

Forums

I need a timing side crank-case for a 1937 16H. Would a big 4 or any other case be suitable please?

According to the Spare Parts lists 'Subsequent to 1935' and 'Subsequent to 1936' (Therefore, for 1936 and 1937 model years), both Model 1 (Big 4) and 16H featured the same crankcase set (Part No. 3677) This number also features in the WD16H parts lists from 1936 through to 1945 so it is probably one of the most common cases. 1938 onwards civilian and WD Big 4 with enclosed tappets are not interchangeable.

The only difference that I've seen between early and later castings is that the timing case on the later engines was bored oversize behind the crank pinion meaning that the crank can be withdrawn with it still in place. Most earlier cases seem to have been damaged by owners attempting to lever the pinion off.

I have what look to be an unmatched pair of (probably) WD 16H cases. that I'll probably never use. Feel free to send me a mail and I'll let you have some photos. At a quick glance, the timing side looks undamaged.
