Dollshead mainshaft sliding pinion wanted.

Forums

Would anybody be able to sell me a mainshaft sliding pinion part number N8036 22 teeth. I'm in desperate need. The dogs are worn, can anyone advise me why this could happen and is it possible to retrieve them and who could do it for me. Many thanks.

....and ground back to spec if carefully done with correct rod and accurate grinding. Worn shift forks will do this or any other slop in shift mechanism which lets it pop out of gear and wreck dogs.

Try to find a welder who will build it up with weld and then do the grinding yourself....

Time equals money!

Must be very accurate to get all four dogs on radial lines and at 90 degrees to each other. Or only one will do the work, and the Bush will suffer, won't it?

On a BSA sliding gear with 6 dogs that ran on a 6 spline shaft I mounted the gear on the shaft and the shaft into a vice on a drill press. I then mounted some grinding wheels on 8mm steel shafts into the chuck and ground away moving the grinding wheel up and down. I indexed the gear on the shaft and used a new grinding wheel often so the dogs were all sized the same. Hopefully the Dollshead mainshaft  is 4 or 8 splined and you could do the same.
