Which oil tank is correct?

I sold my -60 99 more than 50 years ago. Memory not as it was. but I think it had a gap. I did repaint it silver and black instead of blue, so I believe I should have remembered if it had the plate for the carb inlet. Would have made it a bit more difficult to make a decent paint job.  But not certain.

The photo with the grey oil tank looks very much like the type fitted on my 1960 99. You are quite correct about the big hole being for an air hose from the filter box that should sit between the oil tank and the battery box.

My old girl isn't fitted with an air filter and from what I've been led to believe they are a pain and can cause quite a major air restriction. My carb has an air inlet tube (bell mouth) which seems to work fine enough and the carb hasn't ingested anything as yet. I'm not sure if either Amal or Fecked sell a bell mouth with a grill fitted to stop any big bits getting in to the carb.

Hello  well both these tanks are wide line as the Mount lugs are near the oil filler cap slimline ones are closer in as the frame is. narrower at the rear and 1960 was the change over from wide line to slim line  but all you have do is remount the top lug so it fits now the colours for the frame is dove grey ie Land Rover ardent White and the second. Colour is blue or green or post office red or Norton metallic silver grey. have fun yours Anna j

Hello Guys And girls if you all take look on E.bay you find mini potable gas welders just right for small welding jobs or brazing jobs you can get brazing rods and gas welding rods and flux and the small gas and. Oxygen bottles costs are 109 pound with free post these gas welding kit is just the job  to put in a side panier if your doing a very long distances ride just in case you need to do some welding on a broken part now have fun   yours Anna J 

Anna is right.  The tank with the centre plate is certainly wideline as it was fitted to my 1959 '99' from new.  When I first overhauled mine is 1965 I cut off the plate!  I have since bought a replacement WITH  plate for authenticity.  What I'll do about an air filter or whether I put this oil tank on, I haven't decided. The tank also has threaded studs to take a proprietary filter box - I have never seen one and they would be a pain to get at!
