My bike has Siamese exhaust pipes and I require a new RH silencer. Has anyone any info or comparison between Brituro and Armour silencers or recommend any other manufacturer? Construction, quality and exhaust note.

As Howard says the Tubular…
As Howard says the Tubular silencers look a few years too young ,they are usually long lasting and if bought as a pair can both be used as are reversible. I think the right "look" is the early57 tapered type with the small outlet pipe..

Many thanks Howard and Robert for the information I will certainly have a look at the others and regarding "early 57" mine was first registered on January 3rd 1957 so must be one of the earliest of the new model in the day. The several comments on other threads about using up old stock certainly holds true, my model should have had Girling rear shocks but came with Armstrongs. One of them stamped 1956 as would be expected but the other was 1955.

I like Siamese pipes because they reduce weight and allow better access to the primary side, they are reputed to improve the mid range pick-up. Whether they were availiable in 1957 I don't know, if not they may annoy the rivet counters, Have to admit to being one at times.

Hi Robert,
I bought the bike in 1962 and the Siamese was fitted then and was certainly a few years old but may have been fitted by a previous owner. I hadn’t given it a thought and just assumed it was an optional extra from new, perhaps someone can lay their hands on some 1957 sales literature to confirm. It certainly sounded good especially when I made my own megaphone in 1963 when the original fell to pieces. I still have my megaphone but don’t think I will get away with it somehow.
Oh how I wish your silencer were right handed Anna.

Siamese systems sound…
Siamese systems sound different to standard. Mine is a bit more "snarly" and a bit louder than is comfy.. Good for letting dozy cagers know that you are alongside. I should wear earplugs . Does your system run inside the frame or outside?. I would stick with it if only for the added ease of rear chain and brake maintenance.

Hi Robert, Mine runs inside…
Hi Robert,
Mine runs inside the frame and from what I can remember it was very loud at full throttle with the home made megaphone but in built up areas I never went above the 30 MPH (the only speed limit that there was at the time) but once clear of the limit it was as hard as I could go. Anyway most of the mobile police officers were on pedal cycles of LE Velocettes.
I have cleaned up the megaphone and painted it just to try out and bring back memories but will ultimately replace it with a period silencer for normal use.
The Siamese certainly makes maintenance easier as you said

I have used Toga (British made ) who also made them for Norton Motors and Hemmings (own make) versions in the past and both lasted well and looked good. The Hemmings versions were a little bit louder but who worries about that ? Neither of these after market offerings blew the rear-end out like a lot of the quiet ones did. You probably want the silencers that are cigar-shaped but round in cross-section. The oval cross-section ones are rubbish and look very wrong. There are some after market types about that are copies of the first 88SS and 99SS silencer type which are completely round so are interchangeable left to right and these are very good quality but probably the Stasi will criticise them "for being incorrect for model." Good luck, Howard
