1957 Model 88 Model 99 Featherbed frames are they interchangeable?

Forums

I have a 1957 Model 88 Dominator. I need a replacement frame for it. I can purchase a 1957 Model 99 frame. Are the Model88 and Model 99 frames interchangeable.

For -59, according to spare parts list same for 88 and 99. Price £28 7s 6p. As crankcase is the same for both, I should be surprised if they are different.

The 1957 Model 88 and Model 99 are almost identical in respect of dimensions bar the respective engine barrels and internals.

hello all featherbed frames will take  most engines right up to a Rover V8 without cutting the Frame and it's been done well before Now  there is a Featherbed rover V8  around in Yorkshire  I have seen it in the flesh  a fantastic bike  and a credit to its builder  of his skill and mindset,                                        Yours  anna j

Hope he doesn't drop it, Anna! My old friend had a Norimp  but not the physique to enjoy it. Pictures?

I have always looked on different engines within the fbed with interest to see how good (or not) the engineering was/is. But it is very annoying to see how the final fittings are scruffy, cables here-there. Exhausts bent all ways carbs sticking out where they neednt. Don't mention the wiring!!! I know someone who made a Norimp, fine piece of kit-no centre stand, gear change-disgusting. Very frustrating.

Not strictly Norton, but I'm sure you'll forgive me! For the ultimate Imp based machine, check out "Rodney Kinnaird's Motorcycle" on YouTube. Rodney raced a NorImp back in the 70s until a fall at Wheelers  (Dundrod) on a 7R left him with a damaged left arm, Despite this he's a superb engineer and as a project a few years ago he resurrected his old Imp engine, made an MV type sump, grafted on an Alfa Romeo DOHC cylinder head, then built the lot into a frame of his own making! He also made the tank, seat, fairing (not fitted) and meggas. Honda wheels and forks, a Quaife 5 speed box, Commando type clutch and 4 Mikunis complete the Beast! The ear splitting howl is unbelievable, YouTube doesn't do it justice!

Don't forget that in the UK the frame numbers will identify what year the bike is registered too - as with the chassis number on cars.  With a new frame I guess that they are unstamped?  If so then a set of 7mm stamps will give you a free hand!

The frames are the same,  I don't know if there was a difference in the head steady as the 99 engine is a little taller than the 88.If there is then its possible that you may have to use a little packing if using a  99 steady and an 88 motor. I don't think you have this issue.
