Hi all,
I'm restoring my 54 ES2 and despite searches I've never seen an original photograph of the exact design of the silver tank top panel. The sides yes, But not the top. Can any member supply a known accurate photograph of this with respect to the panel being öpen"at the top , and/or the bottom or is it enclosed by the pinstripes? I'm sure you get my meaning.
Cheers
Chris

1955 ES2 tank panel pics
Chris,
If you have the tank with the round badges then I believe the attached photos show the correct top panel design. Image 7733 is from my ES2 and image 8214 is a restored tank that I traced the original panels before any chroming or re-painting was done. I still have these tracings if they are any help.

Fantastic pictures thanks…
Fantastic pictures thanks all. Its slightly more complicated than I mentioned. My friend is restoring a 55 and I'm restoring a 54 and they are both at paint stage. I'm seeing differences in 55 vs earlier wrt the sidepanels at least.
Can anybody provide similar pics for a 54 top at least? I have pics from a 53 but the paint is so faded that its almost useless and something known original or patterened on one would be grand.
Cheers

... there is no "standard" as these were all hand lined. This is the front of mine if it helps (not orginal). I've made the lines disappear into the seat nose tunnel at the back.
