Front brake drum.

Forums

On a certain auction site is a 'Dommie' front brake drum for sale £70, rather a lot for a well tired item with no wheel bearings. But note it is 'part cast iron so does not fade', What hasn't been mentioned is that this hub is for the early brake plate as well. Despite their appearances the drums and brake plates do not interchange. It's not until you try the brake plate/drum combination and have it wrong do you find the error of your ways.

By the way I picked up this one as I was looking for a latter front wheel with WM2 alloy rim. Any one know of one?

Hi Alan,

I’m currently rebuilding a 1960 Domi 99. I didn’t know that there were two different brake plates (‘early’ and ‘late’). How can I tell the difference between the two? Are there specific features that make it possible to identify them easily?

Thanks

Tony

Hi Alan, Tony.

The early brake plate is much flatter in appearance except for a slight bulge where the brake cam is mounted. While the later type has more of a dome to it, as it is fitted to a full width alloy hub.

Hope this helps.

Albert
