You don't actually need to remove the auto advance unit to change the bob weight springs. The job is a bit fiddley but do-able with it in-situ, all you need is a steady hand and some thin long nosed pliers.

i ordered mine from Walridge Motors here in Canada. Owner Mike Partridge is an ex-pat Brit, and is one of the major suppliers for Brit bikes over here.

Yes you do Ernie , sadly. The unit fits to the magneto on a tapered shaft so there is no way to reposition it without re-timing. The slack in the pinions and chain are the problem even if you have a reference point and don't move anything else. Good luck , Howard
