Plunger Model 7 issues

Doing a full rebuild of a 1950 Model 7 that has seen better days.

Looking at the crankcase and noticed something missing as identified in image attached (I hope).

Not sure what is threaded or attached on lower outside of crankcase on timing cover side at the very bottom.

Any thoughts on what I am missing and solutions would be appreciated.

Is it possible that this is just a plug fitted to blank off where two oil passage drillings intersect?

Thanks guys, makes sense.

So guess I could get someone to rebuild the shoulder and tap a thread for a blanking plug.

However I may wait fro a Model 7 plunger aficianado before proceeding

Hi Peter - hope this may be of some help - here is a shot of the screw in question on my 1956 Model 99 engine - I believe the crank cases were very similar if not identical. My bet is it is indeed a blanking screw from the drilling of an oilway- you will be able to affirm this yourself upon disassembly.

I've never heard of doing this - I understood as others have said that it is just for blanking purposes.

The blanking screw can be removed for clearing oil ways - during full disassembly/ rebuild of my ES2 motor I did just that by using proper size aircraft length twist bits turned BY HAND held in a tap wrench and clearing with compressed air MANY times over . I certainly don't recommend this as a regular maintenance routine and I'm sure Norton didn't either.

Thanks everyone for the help.

While I was dropping off a Commando frame for machine work it turned out the chap has a fully restored '53 Model 7 and I was able to look closely.

Indeed it is a blanking plug so I simply need to get my welder to build up the missing shoulder and tap a new thread for a suitable blanking nut/bolt/screw.
