Timing Light

Anybody got any recommendations for a decent Timing Light (Strobe in old money) I can use on my Commando. Can't seem to get on with the modern ones. Keep cutting out at high revs before giving up the ghost.

I've got a Gunson from Halfords. Nothing too exotic but seems to work fine. Ian

Thanks Ian, the one that just packed up, funnily enough, is a Gunson from Halfords. I suppose they are all the same, so I will order one online. Halfords don't seem to stock them in their stores now, no need for them with modern vehicles.

Hi. May be to late for you but i'very recently replaced an old Gunson with an Accuspark unit - the cheaper orange one. Has worked very well so far, and my Morini needs the timing setting at 6000rpm.

Online was about half the cost of a Gunson and the brand was highly rated by Practical Classic mag.

Very interesting, which model? I will order one later tonight. Fitting a Boyer at the moment.

Hi Gary

I got the basic S8000 one, without the rev counter and buttons on the back. Was under £20 including postage 2 months ago.

There were several reviews of the pricier one with the rev counter on the back suffering from sticking buttons so I chose the basic one with less to go wrong. Only minor issue I had is that I found out that the inductive pick up is uni directional meaning if on wrong way you get no flash, but then again the old Gunton required an adaptor in between the ht lead and the plug so the new one is a lot easier to use.
