Battery for Mk3

Forums

Project nearing its end now but what battery are you folks using to power up the electric start. Would like the largest possible to fit into the battery orifice on the frame or is there one with enough cranking amps to suffice that might be smaller?

Have a 14ah Yuasa in my Mk 3 - just fitted in the available space although can hardly get a cigarette paper between battery top and frame tube member. Starts bike OK but never use it as motor kick starts firsttime always with Boyer ignition fitted.

I have a

CT14-A2 Motobatt Motorcycle Battery, from Busters Via eBay,it has 4 connection points , makes life easy to to route heavy duty starter cables on one set and lighter cables to the other pair . I always use the electric start . Podtronics reg/ rec and latest Boyer, system works fine.

As Katherine says, plus use the heaviest cables you can for the starter. When I refitted mine I used a Mini solenoid which fits nicely where the Norton one was. Then another thick cable to the starter motor.

I installed this one recently , it is working and fit great. I cannot comment on longevity.

I'm using a Moto Batt MBTX 12 U on my mk III, it turnsthe E/S without issue & runs the Boyer (without lights) for +/- 175 milesfrom full to Carole Nash call ;) - it seems that my ignition warning light really was working & I have a charging issue to resolve!

The Moto Batt is smaller (comes with a 'stand' if size is an issue)& was cheaper than the YUASA, Ipurchased it from GP Perfromance in Burcot on the A4074 (they were very helpful).Used to see a lot of bikes there for the H CafÃ? (?) on a Monday night as I was heading to work in Berkshire.
