Small cover

I was recently gifted this small, unmachined cover, about 2" diameter.  I thought if would fit the Navigator gearbox inspection cover.  No, screws are in the horizontal plane so logo would be vertical.
Had a look at pictures of the big bikes, might fit the inspection cover of the AMC box? The logo would be at a racy angle!
Any ideas what it might fit?

Looks like an attempt to copy a gearbox inspection cover.  (You can see shadow of the fixing cutaways).  I would just make it round,  polish a little and stick it on display somewhere.  :-)

I think that Jon is correct.

I have a suspicion that AMC tried hard to avoid making Nortons more attractive than their own models.  AJS and Matchless had gearbox covers with logos, but I'm not aware that they made a Norton version.

John,

Your Navigator must be a pre-64 model.
If you had a Navigator with the late gearbox this might be your future gearbox cover.
Early L/W gearbox had cover screws on the horizontal.
Late L/W gearbox has cover screws on the the vertical.
The covers are practically the same, except for the tiny vent hole which is always near the top of the cover.

At 2 inch diameter this casting may be a bit large for a gearbox filler/inspection cover.

...the replies.  Probably an aftermarket goody?  Would fit both (some) small and big twins once cleaned up.
Surprised the covers for the early and late lightweight covers have different orientation, what was the point in that?
looks like it will become a man cave model!
