Hi all, I have just become the proud owner of a 1953 ES2 Engine number 51410 H4 (it also has 00949 stamped down the front of the crankcase) I have had an issue with te clutch in that the nut that holds the centre of the clutch has come loose it did not have a washer fitted. I notice that there is a thread in the centre of the clutch where the nut is fitted is there something missing to stop the nut coming loose. Also on inspection of the plates all the tangs seem quite worn and I would like to replace them, I don't yet have a parts list and I am a little unsure which ones to order and the best place to get them from.
Many thanks Chris.

Thanks for your reply, I'm…
Thanks for your reply, I'm new to this group and still finding my way around. I made a washer for the mainshaft nut and fitted it with some locktite but as I tightened it I found that it became difficult to turn the clutch centre and had to wind it back to get an acceptable rotation without any excessive play, is this normal or am I looking at something more serious.

The "clutch body centre" or …
The "clutch body centre" or "spider" will probably need replacing due to the dogs on the ends of the splines being broken, allowing the centre to pull in too far, and contacting the sleeve gear shaft. These are available from the club, or other Norton parts suppliers, part no. A2/387.
I always loctite the clutch nut as they are prone to coming loose.

Thanks for your reply you…
Thanks for your reply you were correct, the abutment that locks up against the splined portion of the shaft was completely missing so when tightened was pressing against the spacer at the back.I have a new one but before I fit it does anyone know what torque setting is required.

The thread in the centre of…
The thread in the centre of the clutch is for a clutch puller, not always necessary.
