hello Well I have heard on the BBC about a scheme to tax noise pollution from cars and motorcycles well how this work out they’ve not said and what else are they going to come up with to stop us riding our bikes yours anna j
Could be the end for BSA Gold Stars, Rudge Ulsters etc. Even with original "silencing" they make a racket. Can't say I feel any sympathy at all towards the local Harley berk who can be heard from miles away with his straight pipes. And it won't make any difference at all to the local hooligans who blast us with their no numberplate unsilenced off road trikes at all hours. I doubt my 99 with Siamese pipes and standard cheroot "silencers" would go unnoticed. When your Healy 3000 loses its silencer on that road hump you will HAVE to call recovery, no driving it home or to the exhaust shop. There will be lots of unintended consequences to this. But if it is any use against the twerps driving around with huge base speakers I would be surprised. When that traffic car with its Blues and two's overtakes you by the camera ,will you be the one who gets the ticket?.Do you live under a flight path??.
I was fined for inefficient silencers and excessive noise back in 1977, riding my Jubilee (I was 17). Mind you people did hold their ears if I opened the loud button going up a hill! It surprising how much noise a 250 can make with a megaphones! So the legal power is already there if they want to use it.
Yes Dan, but that takes a real live Traffic cop to do it.It has been known that there has been at least 2 to be in South East London at the same time , Perhaps one of these might find the time??.
Unsurprisingly, people are now starting to kick up a bit of a stink about it.
In NZ, with a maximum speed limit of 100 km/hr (110 on a recently opened motorway, for a few km.) The local tearaways can´t go fast, so, they go loud! The same attitude as those who buy a Commando 961, then scrap the legal silencers.
It's madness but that won't stop the spiteful idiots in charge. Sounds reflects, refracts, is concentrated and dispersed at random, so a pass or fail will be a random event also. The noisiest things in our cities (especially when you combine the offensive sound and the length of time we hear it) are the turbo diesel buses, and I wonder how they will be dealt with? All this technology has taken us into despotism.
Last year I has ringing in my ears after a police siren abruptly switched on the moment the car was passing me. They should rise from zero...
And the biggest noise problem is noisy neighbours, but the kind of people who rule us don't live in the kind of neighbourhoods where they suffer.
Must look for a Government Consultation web site. That's the only chance. But they are dominated by fired-up amateur politicians who want to 'make a difference'.
I am starting to understand the mindset of those Mericans who are reluctant to give up the Guns!.
It looks like the trial system will be installed on the A32 near West Meon, can't wait. The notices will be sent out automatically, so for those with bikes that were built prior to the silencer E marking becoming law, not an issue.
Looks like my posty is going to need a bigger bag.
the effect of leaning on the button of a set of air horns as you drive/ride past the camera would be.
Could be expensive!.
How is an automatic roadside system going to measure sound output at a specified range and angle? Noise falls with the square of distance (twice the distance = 1/4 the sound) unless it is focused or reflected, in which case it can easily seem to be magnified. Seems to me as if it will never stand up in court, but they will rely on riders paying £50 straight away rather than go to court and face substantial legal costs, loss of earnings and a magnified fine if they lose. So the fact that their policy cannot be legal won't worry them in the slightest.
Hello Well we can be fined up to a Grand if your silencers are noisy and over 86 DB Most Air compressors give of around 90 DB but you can buy easy fit baffles from Ebay then there is mechanical Noises too that police can give you a warning about, if you are stopped so ride safe and check your bike for Noise you can get a cheapish Bd meter , I have used these for years as my first job was a Trainee Sound engineer for Altec Lancing London and In my time I custom built Speaker cabinets for Bands and Discos the Main Speaker chassis i use are made by Fane Yorkshire Made, and big name Brands have used there speaker chassis as well Now all nightclubs must fit a drawmer sound suppressor witch can be set at 85 db and it will not go any louder no mater what the DJ dose, I wish our bikes were like this but you can fit that bit extra in side your silencer save us getting a fine and councils will be fitting road side sound detectors from now on along side the speed cams So another ploy to get more cash for the Treasury yours anna j
