Hello, Needing to tighten up the 1947 M18 magneto chain. Is it just a case of pivoting the magdyno? Will i need to re-time the spark? Sorry - beginner's question! Thanks .
Not pivot exactly...

Watch out for tight spots
You may find some variation in the amount of slack in the chain as the mag rotates. If so set the tension at the tightest spot and try not to worry if the chain appears too slack elsewhere.

The platform under the magneto can move fore & aft in the engine plates. You need to slacken off the long bolt that goes through the mounting plate as well as the short one that screws into it and is under it (on the timing side). These are not the easiest to get at!
Sometimes you will also need to slacken off the engine mounting bolt but I like to keep these tight if possible then they will hold the mag in position.
You won't need to retime.
The countersunk screws that go up from the platform into the mag do tend to come loose.....
