Cylinder head oil ways

Forums

Hi all - I am preparing my 1972 manufacture 750 Combat Cylinder Head for bead blasting and am looking for conformation on the number of oil ways so that I may block them as well as possible then clear and clean them afterwords .

I count a total of four feed drillings - two on either side from banjo to rocker shafts .

And four drain drillings - one each side from bottom of each exhaust rocker chamber through to pushrod tunnels and one drain at bottom right of intake rocker chamber that intersects another drilling up from base of head through head gasket at right rear for a total of eight drillings .

Did I miss any ?  Thanks in advance for any help

I have worked on engine components for 30 years and can relate multiple horror stories about this cleaning method. You will never remove all of the embedded beads from aluminum parts and they will find their way to the bearings. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they're not there. Vapor blasting and soda blasting are effective and safe.

Thank you Mike - my plan was to do only the exterior - interior with walnut shell media . I have used glass bead on other engines and have not had any ill effect over 10 years but it may be that I am just lucky - your point is well taken and I will certainly look into soda blasting .

Thanks for the response - Richard
