AMC gearbox

Forums

I have just replaced the kick start  spring in my 1957 Dommi 88 (AMC) box. All ready to go and I have MISPLACED, the level plug.

Does anyone know what thread this item is? Could take some time to order another. I have a million bolts to hand but don't want to fit one that is nearly right and do the case thread in.

Something Imperial no doubt. Appears to be about 5/16". As you know it is in an awkward place to gauge.

Cheers,John..

I suspect 1/4"or 5/16 Whitworth ,but if it screws in by hand all will be well. And when you have it sorted you will find it sitting on the box!.

It's 1/4 BSF.

The same screw is used on the gear position pointer on the end of the gearchange shaft, so you can use that to get on the road if you can manage without the pointer!!

Does anyone ever look at them?
