Were there any heavy twin models that used oil feeds to the sides of the head similar to the commando setup?

Is there a specific length for the valves and/or do they have various lengths?

I have a workshop manual for the commandos. Is there a workshop manual available for the 650 models?

Don't know about valve length. As far as I know oil feed on the sides is only used on Commandos. Maintenance Manual P106/P can be obtained from Andover Norton or RGM. Andover has some other manuals too. There is also a Haynes manual.

Hello Thane - I understand that one of the early Model 7 500 twin cylinder heads had a side lubrication to the rockers but the connection went to one of the fishplates (inlet) for the rocker-spindle cover on each side.  The Domiracer from the early sixties had a direct feed to all four rockers with side entry direct to the spindle.   It never made it for the masses.  Cheers, Howard

Hi Thane.........attachment is a product of A/N.  I believe that it is from a fairly recent info page available on their web site. They did at one time have a more detailed list that gave all the head sizes and lengths of every heavy post-war Norton twin but unfortunately it contained a few typos which caused a few problems. This was the original link.

There used to be a couple of WebSites that specialised in free copies of parts and workshop manuals for Nortons. Try looking in the Search Box at the top right of this page. Also the Norton Maintenance Manual and Instruction Book is often available via online auction sites such as ebay. Generally selling for less than £20.  Just make sure it has the 650 model listed on the front. Another handy book containing 650 info is The Book of the Dominator twins by W Haycraft.

Apart from a few race engines there does not appear to be any evidence of Side Rocker oil feed on standard Dominator engines. The main problem being the numerous end plates that would need adapting and the complex plumbing arrangement to service these. In the 60s there were a few kits around that converted the end plates to pressure feed and also led off to an oil pressure gauge. I believe that the Commando only got the side feed because the top of the engine was needed for the special head steady mounting.

There are the Norton official workshop manual which was in A4 size with  green covers. There is also the Pitmans book of the Norton by Haycroft. There is the American Clymer manuals and also the Norton Service and Overhaul Manual, by F.W.Neal which is the handbook and workshop manual in one small book.
