Dominator sidestand

There's been recent correspondence on this.

When I bought mine (new old spare), I found it impractical to fit until I removed the engine for some other reason.  Mine is 1963, but I don't know if it's any different on the earlier bikes.  I use it very little - it does not inspire confidence.

I bought a sidestand for my 650SS from Unity Equipe last February - cost £165-ish. The engine does need to be lifted as the clamp is shaped to fit snugly between the frame and the crankcase, so no sliding and falling over! I use it most times I park up, but put the bike on the centre stand to kickstart it.

Hello I have adapted the Kawasaki zzr 600 side stand witch is a bit like a norton side stand but better , you then need to make a fitting plate to fit around the back of the two engine mounts and a U bracket for the bottom tube on the frame  this bolts the zzr 600 side stand  to this its then 100% solid  and comes in hard chrome plate too ,   yours anna j

A friend of mine fitted the oe-type stand, by removing the inner primary chaincase. He certainly didn't touch the engine.

As an aside, although I do it myself, starting on the centre stand is not recommended! The force of rider weight plus swinging on the kickstart causes the stand to dent the bottom frame tubes, so if you wonder why your wheels don't clear the ground anymore when you put it on the centre stand, look no further than there!

hello there is no lifting of the motor,  but you need a nice stainless steel plate making up and a U bracket  , if I can work all this out as a female so can anyone else , just remove the outer cover of the primary and clutch and chain  and alternator fittings and then the inner primary cover and sit there and use your imagination,  you see two  engine mounting studs with nuts ether end , from the one under the mag  to the bottom one,  so then you need to get a pace of cardboard and make up a template over these two mounting studs  and make it longinought to go behind the bottom frame tube  were to U bracket will fit over the bottom frame tube with two bolts heads inside  nuts underside  fitted with a peace of rubber tube from a car radiator  cut to size  to fit round the inside of the U bracket around the frame tube  to give some protection to the frame the plate you cut out to fit these two engine studs with fit these a do up the nuts to 25 pound toque  then fit you zzr side stand and U bracket   fit the to nuts and bolts and tuque up to 20psi,  then fit the inner cover then the clutch and alternator  fittings  and chain , tension up the chain with a 1/4 slack on it,  fit the outer cover tuque up to two threads showing on the center nut,  then the job is done,  have fun  yours  anna j

hello if your looking on ebay  the zzr 600 sidestand  in chrome is the one ot have  they do them in black as well if you look at it its more like a norton dominator type    the made up plate that fits behind the engine that picks up the  top and bottom engine stud mounts  and leaveing  enough to pick up the U bracket that fits around the bottom tube of the frame  then the side stand bolts on the this  i see if I can find a photo of this off my other computer,  i mosty  now use my laptop     yours  anna j
