Thanks Geoff

Hi geoff,

The needle is just a push fit.

Generally the needle can be prised off usingtwo flat bladed screw drivers, one each side, levering against the case. (with caution) It is on a taper.

Best put something like thin plastic under the screwdrivers to avoid damage to the face of the speedometer.

I have to say that I'd be very wary about getting any solvent, such as WD40 near a chronometric dial, especially the post-war ones as the lettering wipes of almost by looking at it.

It may be easiest to make a slotted tool with a right angled bend that fits closely alongside the needle boss in order to remove it.

Thetwo flat blade screw drivers worked with no trouble the plastic sheet protected the face, did not need the WD40.

The next task will be to get the needle back on the shaft in the correct postion to readzero ( 0 ) MPH.

Thanks again Geoff

Are you certain it was wrong? Remember with the Chronometric the needle sticks where it is as soon as the input is removed. It doesn't return to zero necessarily. unless the input is slowly turned. Sorry if you know this - just a thought.

dont use WD40 or rocket wd40 as it is a water dispersant it was designed i believe to keep water out of electrial components on rockets its not a penertrating oil, use a decent penertrating oil like plus gas etc ,hope you get the needle off with no damage regards nick

Thanks for the info about the needle position, I did not know it would not return to zero when the speedo cable was removed.

Used instument oil for the gears just a small amount.

Just had the the bike down the drive 85mph in first gear,Norton sure make a powerfull engine.

Will reposition the needle.

Thanks again Geoff
