Hey Guys,
I'm going to buy a basic set of sockets to work on my '48 ES2 project. What sizes do you recommend?
Thanks,

I have a preference for 3/8" drive when working on most things motorcycle. If you're not intending to dismantle cranks, then a 3/8" drive Whitworth set up to and including 1/2" Whit. will cover most needs (wheel spindles for instance are 1/2" whit).
Something like this King Dick assortment :-
If you already have 1/2" drive tools then that may make more sense but will be a bit clumsy for some areas.
You certainly won't need American AF or metric sockets for working on a 1940s Norton and the BA fittings can be dealt with using spanners.

Oops - should have mentioned 3/8" drive. Clean forgot. Would also recommend 1/4" drive BA sockets. I find them invaluable for fiddly magneto nuts. Also just the thing for timing K2F mags on the twins. Gordon.

I bought a nice set of British Standard sockets from Snap-On. The smaller sizes are 3/8 drive and the large ones 1/2 drive.

I would suggest a look on a well-known internet auction site for a set of Whitworth sockets, from 3/16" upwards. Worth going for a quality brand too - Britool or similar. Gordon.
